My Approach

Psychotherapy is a process of personal discovery.

Dan BloomIn psychotherapy, people gain understanding of themselves.

This understanding is not mere information, but deeply felt and meaningful knowledge, which helps people resolve the problems that brought them to psychotherapy -- and enrich their lives. Such understanding is action-oriented so that it can be the basis for change in a person’s way of dealing with the world.

Psychotherapeutic understanding occurs through awareness and insight that emerges in the context of the psychotherapy relationship. It is a creative integration of thought, feeling, and action.

My approach to psychotherapy is humanistic, interactive, and present-focused. Psychotherapy is a conversation of discovery.

I actively participate by bringing myself to the sessions in an empathic and non-authoritarian manner. For the most part, present experience rather than a person’s history is the foundation of each session.

I am a contemporary gestalt psychotherapist. Gestalt psychotherapy is one of the original humanistic approaches to psychotherapy.  Gestalt psychotherapy is a leading psychotherapeutic modality practiced worldwide. It has been instrumental in reforming the wider world of psychotherapy by stressing the present experiencing of the individual and by having the therapist take an active, non-judgmental role in the therapy.
